Studi di Ugo Foscolo

Nato nel 1778 a Zante (isola del mar Iono sotto il dominio di Venezia), trascorre la sua adolescenza a Venezia. Per la sua formazione scolastica sono fondamentali i classici greci e lati, inoltre anche gli scrittori del Settecento; assorbe le idee di libertà e ugualianza della Rivoluzione Francese.

Viaggi

Inizia così la sua vita vagabonda, dapprima a Milano - dove combatte assisieme alla Repubblica Cisalpina, da Napoleone -, poi in Francia, a Firenze e a Pavia, dove insegnò per poco tempo lettereatura italiana all'Università.

La cara Quiete

Dopo la sconfittta di Napoleone a Lispia, nel 1813, e il ritorno degli Austriaci a Milano, alimentarono in lui una grande delusione. Così decise di intraprendere un esilio volontario, aggravato da difficolta economiche, a Londra muore nel 1827, a causa di una malattia al fegato detta Turbercolosi Miliare. Nel 1871 il governo italiano, riporta i suoi resti nella basilica di Santa Croce a Firenze.

Dei Sepolcri

Un carne, (un componimento poetico di tino elevato) composto nel 1806, di crica 300 endecasillabi. E' il capolavoro di Foscolo ribadiva il valore della tomba e che i monumenti dei grandi uomini, sono un esmpio da seguiere, di virtù.

• Il Neoclassicismo considera l'arte e la poesia il risultato più alto delle capacità umane e che vede al centro la perfetta bellezza dell'arte antica.

• L'Illuminismo, la fiduzia nella ragione, con cui l'uomo può spiegare la realtà, l'idea che il mondo è fatto di materia governata da leggi meccaniche.

• Il Romanticismo gli consente di valutare positivamente i sentimenti e le illusioni come grandi passioni.

Foscolo attribuisce alla poesia una funzione civile di formare la coscienza degli uomini; uno strumento di continuità è il sepolcro, che rende immortali le gesta compiute dal defunto e ne tramanda i pensieri.Altri temi tipici di foscolo sono:

• La morte come approdo di quiete;
• Lo scontro ribelle con il prorpio tempo;
• Il valore delle bellezza formale.
