what is a literary school?
A literary school is a term used to divide different literature periods based on the characteristics presented on each one of them. In English literature, there are eight literary schools: Medieval; Renaissance; Restoration; Romanticism; Victorian; Edwardian; Georgian; Modernism. The following work will present the last two.

This literary school was named after the kings George I, George II, George III, George IV and George V, being part of the history of English literature during the years of 1714-1830. It was created in England, counting with many historical events such as Industrial Revolution and the expansion of the British Empire through colonialism.

who are the most influential people of the period?
One of the most impactful writers of her time, she is the author of "Pride and Prejudice", "Sense and Sensibility", "Emma", "Persuasion" and more. Jane Austen established a new standard to romances with strong and complex female characters.

Mother of Mary Shelley, she was an important writer, philosopher and women's rights activist. For some, she is the mother of the first "wave" of feminism.
MARY WOLLSTONECRAFT
Father of Mary Shelley, William was an english journalist, political philosopher and novelist. He was one of the first to suggest a different political and economical system from capitalism, with similar ideals to anarquism.
WILLIAM GODWIN
He was a british writer, political activist, and theorist, philosopher and revolutionary. He lived through the French Revolution, being an important figure to democracy and social justice.

Pride and prejudice
Published in 1793, it is a book written by Willian Godwin where it is defended that the government is a corrupt force in society, perpetuating the dependecy and ignorance of those who follow it.
Mary Wollstonecraft wrote it when she was 33 years old, publishing it in 1792. The ideal defended by the work argues for the empowerment of women in education, politics, society and marriage.
Written by Jane Austen, it is a romantic novel published anonymously in three volumes in 1813. A classic, it is appreciated even nowadays and tells the story of the relationship between Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy.

The book tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a Swiss student of natural science who creates an artificial man from pieces of corpses and brings his creature to life. Soon enough, the creature turn against his creator and manage to end his life, after a constant seek for affection and eventual loathing.

It is clear the impact that the period had and still has on the English, since multiple of the georgian works are still referenced nowadays. More than that, these same works were essential for the creation of others, being pioneers of a whole new model of writing and art expression in general.

The birth of the period is dated from 1922, being structured by the ocurrancy and by the end of the First and the Second World Wars. The european writers were devastated by it, so they chose shape over content in their works, searching for the personal answers that society, government or religion couldn't give.

who are the most influential people of the period?
Victoria Mary Sackville-West, mostly know as Vita Sackville-West, was a writer of fiction and poetry. Besides being recognized by her work, she is also famous for her relationship with Virginia Woolf, being the inspiration for one of her most famous books, "Orlando".

Born in 1911, Elizabeth Bishop arrived in Brazil in 1951, with nothing but a single published book. She ended up falling in love with Lota Macedo Soares, a brazilian architect, and living in the country for more than 15 years, creating a controversy reputation as a famous writer.

The author of the famous works "1984" and "Animal Farm", George Orwell became an important figure when it comes to writing about social and political events.

Thomas Stearns Eliot, known simply as T. S. Eliot, was a poet, playright, literary critic and editor, besides of one of the most proeminent figure of the modernist movement.

Published in 1931 by Vita Sackville-West, it is a novel and the most popular work of the writer. It talks about the gaining of control over one's own life, besides addressing the constrictions of class and gender.
George Orwell published it in 1949 and it still is one of the most famous books of all time. Its themed by a dystopia in London, where the society is constantly watched by a totalitarian regime. Opression, government control and historical revision are some of the topics.
Not a book but a poem, it was written by Elizabeth Bishop and it centers around the themes of grief and loss and the way that the speaker - and the reader, by extension - deals with it.

The most impactful aspect of this period was, with no doubt, the restructing of a new way to write and to tell stories. Even now, modernism continues to renew art expressions, although its bases - both books and its writers - are still referenced and appreciated.
