  • The Spanish language came from Spain in 1498- Christopher Columbus.
  • They came in 3 ships-La Niña, La Pinta and La Santa Maria.
  • They came to Trinidad to look for gold. They wanted to find El Dorado, City of Gold.

The Language

  • Spanish is taught in primary and secondary school
  • Approx 5% of the population speaks Spanish
  • Political situation with Venezuela-> Enhanced need for bilingualism
