Costume Shop Supervisor

What to do?

A Costume shop supervisor is in charge of all the wardrobe-related activities which means he is responsible for tracking run shits and coordinating the costuming shop to get all the costumes, props and wigs for actors to wear during a play.

A good supervisor...

  • Organizes the production team, budget, and time.
  • Manages large teams of people in their different areas.
  • Creates good communication between the shop and the directors as well as with other departments.
  • Has the knowledge and skills to create costumes required for the play.
  • Knows designing and deep research about the world of the play for the costumes.

Connections at work

Costume Supervisors are in constant communication with members of the costuming team such as de costume designer and the shop in charge of creating the costumes. The supervisor also needs to work with actors to make sure they have the right order to wear the costumes required for each scene throughout the play.

Time spent

Most of these jobs have an average time that needs to be covered either daily or weekly but despite that, what this work needs is people that feel compromised with the job and that they spend the time that is necessary to finish what needs to be done on time and with the required level of attention to details.

Income

The average income per year of a Costume Shop Supervisor can go from $41k to $71k being $57k the most common income in between the range.

Academical preparation

While getting a degree related to production and costuming design matters, what all the producers are looking for is an experienced portfolio that demonstrates your skills in a high variety of techniques and areas like makeup or wig styling
