Task 3 Definition of intra-sectoral and tran-sectoral strategies

presented by: JOSE ZUÑIGA KAREN RIASCOS duvan sanchez MARIA VILLAMARIN PProblematic: environmental impact due to poor waste management

Problem in my community

The main problem in my community, which is commune #2 of the city of Popayán, La Arboleda neighborhood, is the inadequate management of waste. Today many communities in the city of Popayán suffer from the same problem since we do not have an adequate garbage collection service, they do not have established schedules, sometimes they do not carry out their route due to internal problems. This generates environmental pollution in the soil, visual pollution within my community and constitutes a focus for the development of vectors that cause various diseases, generation of greenhouse gases and generation of bad odors.

Current state of the situation

The problem continues because no response is obtained from the mayor's office and more than help, materials are required to minimize or mitigate bad odors and the increase in rodent animals that the same waste produces. The large amount of garbage has been minimized because we spoke with the president of the community board who called an extraordinary meeting to discuss the problems in our community, key points were discussed such as: raising awareness about the possible diseases that occur. They can acquire this same waste, they also talked about the visual environmental pollution that it produces and all those greenhouse aspects that the waste produces. It was agreed that garbage will only be taken to strategic points once the collection car begins its route within the community. The waste will be disposed of in a double bag to prevent it from being easily torn or damaged during collection. A prompt response is expected from the mayor's office to ensure that they provide us with plastic collectors to dispose of all that waste correctly and that rodent animals do not spread the waste in all those strategic points.

Campaign "Clean Community Protected Health"

Main goal: Promote awareness and behavioral change in waste management, focusing on the importance of proper separation, reduction, reuse and recycling of waste.

Campaign "Clean Community Protected Health"

Goal: Reduce health risks and mitigate environmental pollution caused by inadequate waste management. Scope: Aimed at residents of Commune 2, local authorities, educational institutions, community leaders and local businesses. This campaign would focus on several aspects Health Education: Conduct workshops and informative talks on the health risks associated with inadequate waste management. Distribute printed and digital educational materials that highlight the dangers of poor waste management to human health. Environmental Awareness: Organize community clean-up days to involve residents in cleaning and proper waste management. Create events to promote the importance of a clean environment and how each individual action impacts collective well-being.

Campaign: "Clean Community Protected Health"

Collaboration with Authorities and Companies: Promote meetings between the community and local authorities to demand concrete and long-term solutions for waste management. Foster alliances with local companies to implement recycling and waste reduction programs. Intra-sector strategy: Collaborate with health institutions to identify and communicate the risks associated with poor waste management in terms of impact on public health. Cross-sector strategy: Alliance with the environmental sector to promote sustainable practices in waste management, including the creation of selective collection points and the promotion of composting in public and private spaces.
