Free acess to millions of songs Spotify jam feature allows users to listen to music with their friends- add songs to the queue Spotify also makes playlists tailored to you from the artists, genres, and most listened to songs Spotify has a free option, as well as a premium option which includes unlimited skips, no ads, unlimited playlists, offline listening, etc

Strengths

Artist: Nathan

Not a lot of profit margin (due to high marketing costs) Free feature has ads every few minutes- is annoying Premium plan can be pricey to some -$11 per month, while competitors (Apple music) is only $4 per month (soundcloud) that is free Spotify has poor artist payout. Artists are not making as much money as they want or should be making. User privacy, information being sold (Wrapped Campaign)

Weaknesses

Artist: Martina P

Spotify attracts an audience by producing original music and podcasts that are exclusive to spotify only. -example: a streaming service like soundcloud may only have specific versions of music (remixes, covers) When big artists drop music lots of their listeners need an app to listen to the music - spotify is an ap they can use, so when artists drop music that is an opportunity for spotify to gain more users and popularity. Spotify wrapped has given them the oppertunity to make millions of dollars and gain millions of new users (Started a trend)

Opportunities

Artist: Nathan

Spotify has competitors like

  • soundcloud- free, unlimited songs, no ads
  • apple music-$4.99, unlimited, no ads
  • youtube music-$10, unlimited songs, no ads, offline listening
These are all threats to Spotify who is $11.99 per month, so the priciest optionweak free plan-ads every few mins, very limited amount of song skips, can't go offline-in some cases (consumer buy premium) in other cases people will transfer to another platform where they can get the opposite of that for free or cheaper

  • Their growth strategy -growing this into a multi-million dollar campaign
  • Becoming top 10 most successful ad campaigns.
  • Targeting teens/young adults
  • Successful because social media is everything, so turning ‘Spotify Wrapped’ into a social event encouraged a worldwide trend.

CULTURE

Spotify lives by the mindset that all workers are owners. Spotify wants their employees to take responsibility in their roles (know what to develop on and how to develop it) Self Expression: Workers at spotify are given the right to dress casually to work so that means they do not have to wear uniform nor dress alike.

Culture Pt1

Nathan

CULTURE GIVEBACK: Spotify has also utilized their platform to support organizations such as Unicef Used their platform to support people that have been affected by the war in Ukraine Helps those that may be going through mental health issues. Spotify has a give back program that allows their employees a paid day to work at any non profit organization that they want to support.

A formal structure management has work that is divided amongst workers depending on the role they play in the organization Spotify has a formal structure of management as everything is led by the CEO, followed by other management in the organization such as the chief financial officer, the global head of public affairs, etc. Spotify is a divisional structure with a group of people that work together on similar tasks to provide music and podcasts to consumers around the world.

Organizational Structure (1)

Daniel

Advantages include: the flexibility in work environment changes Everyone has a clear idea of what is required of them Easier to change size of division Elimination of barriers between departments Quality and speed in decision making is improved

Organizational Structure (2)

Daniel J

Disadvantages include: Increase in costs by duplicating resources Divisional goals are stressed instead of organizational goals Time spent in meetings, lasting long Conflicting loyalties

Organizational Structure (3)

Daniel Ft Martina

TEAM STRUCTURE Spotify is also a team structure as the company brings together workers from different departments to work together (share ideas/get perspectives) -may separate to do their own thing once the task is completed.
