What is groups?

0X

In chemistry, a group is a column of elements in the periodic table of the chemical elements. There are 18 numbered groups in the periodic table.

GROUPS IN THE PERIODIC TABLE

Group 3 - 12

Group 2

Group 1

Data

Group 3 to 12 of the periodic table are called "transitional metals". These metals are both ductile and malleable and conduct electricity and heat. .

Data

Group 2 of the periodic table are the alkaline earth metals: . They are harder and less reactive than the alkali metals of Group 1.

Data

Group 1 of the periodic table are the alkali metals, These are soft, shiny, low-melting, highly reactive metals, which tarnish when exposed to air. (Except for hydrogen)

Group 16 : The Oxygen group Elements such as oxygen, sulfur, selenium, tellurium, and polonium are included. While oxygen is required for breathing, the other elements play a variety of roles, such as sulfur's participation in amino acids and tellurium's employment in electronics.

And the group 17 are the Halogens. These nonmetals are extremely reactive and are frequently employed as disinfectants, in water treatment, and in the manufacture of polymers and medicines.

The group 14 are the carbon group. Carbon serves as the foundation of organic chemistry, whereas the other elements are noted for their various characteristics, which range from semiconductors like silicon to heavy metals like lead.

The Nitrogen group can be found at group 15 . These are necessary for life and industry, with nitrogen being an important component of the atmosphere and others having use in semiconductors and medicines.

The group 13 are what we call the boron group. These contain three valence electrons and might be metal or nonmetal. They are required in a variety of industrial applications and electronics.
