STATES OF MATTER

THERE ARE THREE DIFFERENT STATES OF MATTER; GASSES, SOLIDS AND LIQUIDS! THEY CAN EASILY CHANGE WHAT STATE THEY ARE IN BY BEING FROZEN, MELTED, HEATED ETC! THEY ARE ALL COMPOSED WITHIN DIFFERENT DENSITY'S.

Solids are constucted in a tight and compacted way. They are held together strongly by various forces, so particals can only vibrate where they are and they do not move around. This is why solids do not flow and keep there shape. Because particles are so close together , solids cannot be sorted into a smaller volume.

SOLIDS

LIQUIDS

Liquids are very close together, so a liquid cannot be squashed; the volume reamains the same when you squeeze it! They are constantly moving around eachother as they are not held together as strongly as in a solid, so a liquid is able to flow from one place to another. A liquid will change shape to match the container it is in! Even though the ammount of liquid (volume) remains the same if it is put in different conatiners!

Particals in a gas are in relative terms, a long way away from eachother. They move around rapidly in all directions so a gas will completely fill any container. The big spaces between particles make it relatively easy to squash a gas into a smaller space (reduce it's volume). This brings the particles closer together and it is sometimes possible to squash the particles so close together that the gas becomes a liquid.
