PowerNotes: Quick Guide
Don't Get Mad, Get Organized! Citation & Research Managers
Start
Log In to Powernotes
*Use Your FIU Email Address to Set Up Account
Create a New Project "Card"
Enter the project information and ensure you select a citation style -- Bluebook Law Review is for academic writing, Bluebook In-Line is for court or practice filings
Add topics to organize your project
Add topics for each issue or theme in your paper or research question. This is how you will organize your documents & notes.
Add Items to your Project online
To start adding items and citations, click the yellow "P" icon in the corner of your browser.
See topics and items in your 'P' Menu
After selecting the 'P' button, you'll see your project and a list of your topics.
Save items from Heinonline
If using HeinOnline, you will need to view the text page to save items (not the PDF image)
*Click the document icon in the menu to view the text page.

Highlight the text you want to add, then select the topic to file it under.
Save items & Edit the Citation
Add headings, notes, and edit the automatically generated citation once you select your topic.
*Click the quotation mark icon to view and edit the citation.
Other websites allow Directly highlighting & Saving to Powernotes
In Your Project Outline, You can drag items to organize; You can also add headings or notes
Each entry has a URL to the linked website and the formatted citation next to the " marks
Export your items in different formse.g., pre-Formatted research Logs, Source Notes, topic Lists
Download your project items into an outline or a formatted bibliography - ensure you verify proper format for cites
A word Doc with your formatted list of citations will automatically download
If you download an outline, you can select the components to include in your Word Doc.
