My learning Journal

... by César G. Maldonado E.

Welcome,

This week has been a blur, end of the year activities and finishing up some exciting new projects. Anyway, let's begin with this picture as the preamble of the two frameworks and two models I met this week. Wow ! Awesome stuff !

So much to learn!

What can I say?

This framework is pretty straigtforward, but it seems difficult to implement fully.

I've noticed that most of us, as educators, are sometimes just a little above Substitution and usually not quite in the realms of Redefinition

Dr. Kolb's idea...

It has the same bones of SAMR but

Triple E emphasizes the breadth of technology integration. It encourages educators to examine how technology engages students, enhances their learning experiences, and extends learning beyond the classroom. Triple E provides a broader overview of technology's impact.

The Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, developed by Punya Mishra and Matthew J. Koehler, focuses on the intersection of three essential types of knowledge for educators.

TPACK

One salient aspect is its Dynamic Interplay which recognizes that the knowledge areas do not exist in isolation. Effective teaching with technology happens at the dynamic intersection of all three types of knowledge. The interplay among content, pedagogy, and technology should inform instructional decisions. It's not a matter of balancing the three; rather, it's about integrating them effectively.

The Technology Integration Matrix was developed by the Florida Center for Instructional Technology at the University of South Florida, College of Education.

TIM

The Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) is a model that describes the levels of technology integration in educational settings. It incorporates five characteristics of meaningful learning environments: active, collaborative, constructive, authentic, and goal-directed. These characteristics are associated with five levels of technology integration: entry, adoption, adaptation, infusion, and transformation. TIM provides a framework for educators to assess and improve the use of technology in their teaching, aiming for more transformative and meaningful learning experiences. I watched this video to get a very basic idea.

My thoughts:

As a teacher in training for English as a Foreign Language, delving into the worlds of SAMR, Triple E, TPACK, and TIM has been an eye-opening journey. Initially, I was overwhelmed by the acronyms and concepts, but now I see the immense value they bring to modern education. SAMR's transformative potential, the learner-centered approach of Triple E, the integrated knowledge of TPACK, and the instructional framework of TIM have all broadened my perspective. Each framework and/or model has its strengths, but for someone in my training stage, I find the Triple E framework most accessible. Its focus on engagement, enhancement, and extension aligns well with the communicative nature of language teaching. It allows me to explore various online resources to create dynamic and engaging ESL lessons. The journey has taught me that effective technology integration is more than just a tool; it's about creating meaningful learning experiences. I look forward to further exploration and finding creative ways to implement these models to enrich my future ESL classrooms. Thanks, c.m.
