Discover Climate Fresk
A scientific, creative and collaborative workshop, to learn about the mechanisms of climate change.
1m10
The essentials
Climate Fresk is both the name of the collaborative workshop, and of the French nonprofit that works on disseminating it. It's now present throughout the European continent and the world. The concept: A collaborative serious game, composed of 42 cards detailing the causes and consequences of climate change. It is based on the IPCC reports, showcasing the scientific consensus on global warming. The goal: accelerate the understanding of climate issues, disseminate scientific knowledge, develop collective intelligence and empower people to take the lead in the inevitable transition. The Climate Fresk NGO has already partnered with the European Commission and the European Council, and is already used by several NAs.
During the workshop, participants are handed 42 cards, each one illustrating a component of climate change. Working together, they place the cards on the table and draw connections. They create their own fresk that showcases the mechanisms of climate change. Afterward, participants reflect on what they learned, assess their feelings, and discuss how to be actors of change.
A lighter version of the Fresk exists for children 10 to 14, using 21 cards and lasting only 2.5 hours.
This structure has to be respected, but you can adapt part of the workshop to your needs. With your facilitator, you can choose to focus the introduction and the last "Action" phase on topics relevant to your event: what to do in your NA, the specific issues of your country or region, a field of professional development, etc.

Launching into action
Available in all european languages, the Climate Fresk is accesible to people with any level of previous knowledge on climate change. It can also be a interesting preparation activity, with participants from different origins attending in their countries before meeting. The workshop is easy to organize and implement, having been already tried and tested throughout Europe. The collaborative learning method fosters autonomy and collaboration in the event or project. That makes it a great icebreaking and teambuilding tool.
The Climate Fresk can be used for internal training, as part of an NA's green strategy. The workshop can also be used with beneficiaries, and it is ideal as part of a TCA. Beneficiaries can then in turn use it in their project. The Climate Fresk fosters the GreenComp skills of "Valuing Sustainability", "System thinking", "Exploratory thinking", "Collective action" and "Individual action".
