Scarface is a 1983 American crime drama film written by Oliver Stone based on the 1929 novel of the same name. The film stars Al Pacino, Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Robert Loggia. It is also inspired by the 1932 film, "Scarface", directed by Howard Hawks. De Palma dedicated this version of Scarface to the memories of Howard Hawks and Ben Hecht, the writers of the original film.
Main storyline
Plot 1980 - 1983
The film starts out, when Cuban refugee Tony Montana and Manny Ray arrive in Miami. They start out by murdering someone at the request of Frank Lopez, but quickly gain a lot of prestige. After a while, Montana sets up his own cocaine empire. When he is charged with tax evasion, Tony makes a deal with cocaine kingpin Alejandro Sosa, but refuses to carry out his end of it.
High on cocaine, he finds his sister married to Manny and kills him on the spot. When Montana returns to his estate he begins taking huge amounts of cocaine while Sosa's men invade the grounds. In the end, they kill Tony, and his body falls near a globe that reads "The World Is Yours."
release controversy
When it was released, Scarface was criticized for its excessive violence, profanity, graphic drug usage, and it was given a X rating. The director re-edited the movie four times in an attempt to satisfy the rating board, but they still found the movie too violent. Finally, Mr. De Palma refused to cut the film further and after a hearning, it was released with the R rating. It was a huge succes, but it didn't win any awards, only 8 nominations. Oit took It
