About

Green Fingers

The Green Fingers social action project brought about ways to help save our planet.

Create Awareness

The project was presented to the Environmental Committee to get their support. The project was then presented to the school student body during an assembly. This required more information about the project and how it requires the student body to participate. Thereafter, a short video presentation was created to be shown to a the school's facilitator who then sent out the video to the parents of the school to inform them of the project and ask for their assistance in collecting recyclable resources (yoghurt/ice-cream tubs and 2-litre cold drink bottles) for the following stage of the project. In Block 2, within the first three days, posters were made to remind the learners of the upcoming projects implementation, followed by another short announcement at assembly and engaging with the learners during period 0, and homework period to get them motivated and excited.

Educate

Posters outlining the importance of the project's vision will be posted around the school (with permission from the facilitator). This will be done at the earliest convenience of our host school.

Unite

The Environmental Committee supported the project. The project was a collaborative effort between the foundation phase and intermediate phase student teachers, the aim was to bring all learners in the primary school together to work as a team. However, the foundation phase had a different task to the intermediate phase because of their age and the trees being to heavy for them but the idea remained the same - saving the planet by planting. The Environmental Committee is made up of senior learners (grade 7's) and they were in charge of all the announcements, helping supervise the tree planting and putting up posters around the school.

Parent and community involvement

The community for this project consisted of the parents and the school's secretary and the facilitator. The parents contributed to the project by helping the learners collect yoghurt/ice cream tubs and 2-litre bottles for planting the seeds. The facilitator and secretary assisted in getting this information out to the parents. A date/s and time for planting was communicated with the parents, the learners and the facilitator in due time. The project's execution was documented for the school's website and to share with the external community (the parents).
