Areas with:

• Largely native species
• If there is human activity, there is no substantial modification of:
• Primary ecological functions
• Combination of species

No significant conversion or degradation of natural habitats unless:

• No viable sites in modified habitats
• Interested parties are consulted
• Mitigation hierarchy applies
• Avoid
• Minimize fragmentation
• Restore
• Offset
• Demonstrate feasibility of achieving no net loss or net increase of biodiversity

what is it?

High biodiversity value, important for species

• Critically endangered, endangered, vulnerable or near threatened
• Endemic or restricted range
• Migratory / congregatory

Areas

• Unique or highly threatened ecosystems
• Associated with key evolutionary processes
• Legally protected or internationally recognized

No project will be implemented unless:

• No alternatives in non-critical habitats
• No adverse impacts on
• Biodiversity values
• Ecological processes
• No net reduction in population of endangered or critically endangered species
• Long-term monitoring plan
• Comply with all regulations
