Volleyball Tips

Attacking

Setting

Digging

  • Shape hand like a triangle on the volleyball right infront and above your forehead
  • Right foot forward, left foot back. (maybe step into set, end with right foot forward)
  • Contact ball with fingertips consecutively, push out the ball to the target
  • Set high from underneath the ball
  • Elbows should be outwards but not too outwards or inwards.
  • 4 or 3 step approach. Start slow with your right foot and body relaxed, take step towards net, emphasize (dynamic) last 2 steps to jump straight up. Setter can set on first step of 4SA
  • Use full body to hit, pull left and towards hip to let your right arm swing and your body follow through.
  • Timing, footwork is key and communicating with setter is key
  • Get in comfortable position in the middle of your feet (athletic stance)
  • Have a strong and straight platform facing the hitter and finishing to where the setter is. (angle ams up)
  • Get under the ball, can drop to knees or dive if needed
  • Absorb the balls energy in contact
  • Step into the ball, don't lunge

roll shots

jump serving

blocking

  • Focus on tossing high infront and timing
  • Do approach backwards from endline to see your distance to jump into the court
  • Weight on right foot, toss with right hand as you step with left foot. (left, right, left)
  • Make sure you jump behind the endline
  • Toss should be in the court or on the endline
  • Like attacking, pull left arm to the hip and follow through with whole body
  • Make it look the same as an attack (maintain quick approach), but change the angle, get it over the block and slow the ball down.
  • Contact the bottom of the ball and cuff it (roll hand over the top).
  • Start balanced in defense position
  • Use your approach to jump straight up (vertically), and not forward or out.
  • Your hands must be across the net (no arms straight up).
  • Timing is key
