Youth Murder Mystery Program

Start

THE SET UP

On October 14, 2018, Melissa Wideen vanished. Grazer Falls Police Dept. investigated, focusing immediately on her boyfriend, Keith Blocker. Three weeks later, Keith disappeared. His jacket was found on the bluff overlooking Grazer Falls Quarry and it was presumed he jumped. The police receive a typed confession from him, postmarked the last day he was seen alive. `They closed the case, stating Melissa was murdered by Keith. But you know it's too tidy. There has to be more to the case. You're deteremined to find out what happened to Melissa and prove Keith's innocence.

A Good Teen's

guide to murder

An interactive Murder Mystery program where teens take on an already "solved" murder. They must unravel the disappearances and find the true killer, if there is one.

SMART Goals

SPECIFIC: The main goal of this program is to reiterate to teens that the library is FUN. We will also be featuring the Teen Mystery Collection as well as Just Mercy (Adapted for Young Adults): A True Story of the Fight for Justice by Bryan Stevenson.

MEASURABLE: A quick survey will be conducted at the conclusion of the program asking Teens how they liked the program and asking for future program suggestions they would be excited to attend. Also, circulation numbers will be tracked on the Teen Mystery Collection in the weeks prior to the program, followed by the two weeks after the program.

SMART Goals (cont'd.)

ACHIEVABLE: The Teen Mystery Collection is already established. I am writing the script, making flyers, and putting the program on my Teen Social Media pages. Grazer Falls High School Drama Club is volunteering their time to act as our characters. Their word of mouth will drive the program more than Social Media will. I am capping attendance at 30 teens and will need 2 additional staff members to help that evening.

RELEVANT: The teens have been requesting a Murder Mystery night for months. Murder Mysteries are extremely popular in other library systems among teens. This is an excellent way to draw teens into the library to showcase our collection and the fun programming we have as well as a way to involve them in future programming.

SMART Goals (cont'd.)

TIME-BOUND: Planning for A Good Teen's Guide to Murder will take 2 weeks. Set-up and clean-up for the program will take approximately 1 hour. The program itself will take 3 hours and 15 minutes. Two weeks after the programming, circulation statistics will be pulled so I can measure the success of promoting the Teen Mystery Collection.
