The Celts began to arrive in Britain from north-west Germany around 700 Before Christ

They were hunters, fishermen, metal workers and farmers

They were tribes of warriors

They used iron to make weapons and for trading; they introduced the iron plough

The Druids were the most influential figures in Celtic society and they performed religious rites, administered justice and provided education to the young

Celtic life was based on the clan and people lived in small villages with huts made of wood and straw

Celtic women had more rights: they could choose their husband and have their own property

They worshipped the natural elements: sun, moon, water
