Founded in 1620 when puritans were set off track. Colonists were going to virginia to gain religious freedom. It was used for the puritans church and every day life.

  • Traded rum, fish, woods, manufactured goods, and cash crops.
  • Focused on ship building.
  • Farming was difficult for all of the New England colonies, however corn, pumpkins, rye, squash and beans thrived in this environment.

  • Main document was the Mayflower Compact. Massachusetts colony was self governed.
  • Geography is rocky poor soil, trees, and mountains. This made farming difficult for the colonists.
  • People living in the Massachusetts Bay Colony were puritans, better known as the pilgrims.
  • The religion that these people followed was Christianity.
