What was it:

The Boston Tea Party was an act done by the colonists to raise awareness of the taxes placed on their tea. These colonists dressed up as Native Americans with mohawks; where they boarded British ships and dumbed lots of tea overboard.

Why was it important:

The Boston Tea Party raised awareness to other colonists to help rebel against the British king. This was the first major act done by the colonists which led to the idea of starting a revolution against the British.

What is it:

It was the first Introduction of slavery and racism to the Americans. These slaves were brought to the Americas in big ships that contained horrible living conditions. Many people we separated from their families and died on their way to America.

Why was it important:

The English men planned to use slaves for hard labor and as servants. Grew the idea of being more and more slaves to America. This led to the development of America today.

Battle of Saratoga

When: September 19 - October 7, 1777

What was it about:

The Battle of Saratoga was a battle that ended well for the Americans since this battle was the first battle won by the Americans. This battle ended with 330 casualties on the American side with 1,135 on the British side.

Why was it important:

The battle of Saratoga was considered the turning point of the war since it was the first battle that ended well for the Americans. This win also boosted American morale, since it was so important for them. This battle also caught the eye of the French who started supporting the Americans since they believed that we could win the war.

Articles of Confederation Ratification

When: 1781

What was it about:

The Articles of Confederation ratification was an agreement by all the states to create a central government that all thirteen states could follow. This was the first type of system that the United states applied to there system.

Why was it important:

The Articles of Confederation ratification was important because although it gave America a central government, the government was pretty weak. This gave power to each state to take care of and govern themselves. This was also the first type of system that was accepted by the government.

Mayflower Compact/Establishment of Plymouth Colony

When: Founded in 1620

What is it:

It was when a group of people fled England to hopefully create a self-governing community, hoping to freely practice their religion. They arrived in the Americas on the Mayflower, where they discussed becoming a colony.

Why was it important:

The pilgrims created a place to be free and allowed to believe in what you wanted. The colony grew as time went on with the development of fishing and newcomers. Also created the place that we live today, Massachusetts.

Treaty of Paris

When: 1783

What was it about:

The Treaty of Paris is what officially ended the war against Great Britain, while also giving the Americans more support. When the Treaty of Paris was signed Great Britain gave the Americans land east of the Mississippi River. After gaining this land the Americans were given more fishing rights.Finally, all slaves that went to follow Great Britain in the battle returned to America to serve as slaves.

Why was it important: The Treaty of Paris is very important because its what ened the horrific war against Great Britian. The treaty of Paris also gave the Americans new support after the British stopped ruling. For example we won land, fishing rights and received all the salves who went to fight for Britain.

Declaration of Independence

When: 1776

What was it about:

The Declaration of Independence was a paper signed by all of our founding fathers who helped form the United States. The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson, and signed in the state of Pennsylvania.

Why was it important:

Why was it important: The Declaration of Independence is what gave the American people independence from Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence also helped place the laws and ideas for the future of America.

The Intolerable Acts

What was it about:

The Intolerable acts were laws given to the colonists to punish them for the Boston Tea Party. The Englishmen closed the port of Boston to stop trade, to hopefully limit trade with the colonists. Town meetings were then band to had between the colonists and they were forced to house British soldiers.

Why was it important:

Why was it important: The Intorelable Act was very important because it made the colonists start the idea of starting the Revolutionary War against Great Britain. This was because of the banned town meetings and the closing of the Boston Harbor.

Siege of Yorktown

When: September 29 - October 19, 1781

What was it about:

The Siege of Yorktown took place in Virginia it being very important since it was the first battle after the French went the constitutional army. The Americans only had 389 casualties, while the British had 8,589 casualties.

Why was it important:

The Siege of Yorktown was important because it was the first battle with the help of the French. The constitutional army grew a lot larger with the help of many French people who joined the fight.

Establishment of Jamestown

When: May 13, 1607
What was it:

Jamestown was the first English settlement established in America. It started with about 104 Englishmen from Great Britain. Virginia company looking to expand trade and resources. Led by Captain Christopher Newport.

Why was it Important

Started the first relationship with Native Americans, the Powhatan. Had the biggest cash crop that sold for lots of money; Tobacco. It also played a role in the development of bringing more people to America.

Shay’s Rebellion

When: 1786

What was it about:

Shays Rebllion was harsh rebellion the took place in massachusetts because the American soldiers who fought in the war didnt recvive the right pay for fighting. One leader from the Constiuional Army lead this atack against the state.

Why was it important:

The Shays Rebllion made the American government change because it made them relized how weak the government was. They relized there system was really bad so they changed it for the future of America.

Boston Massacre

When: March 5, 1770

What was it:

The Boston Massacre was a very tragic day for the poor colonists living in Boston at the time. The colonists had gathered up many solid snowballs and started throwing them at the British guards. This led to the British guard firing their weapons at the mob of people, killing 5 people.

Why was it important:

The Boston Massacre was a very important event that helped determine the future of America today. The Boston massacre and the photos drawn, helped the colonists decide whether to be a patriot or to follow the king’s rule. The Boston Massacre also led the colonists to create the first constitutional congress.

Battle of Lexington and Concord

When: April 19, 1775

What was it about:

The Battle of Lexington and Concord took place in Massachusetts, with it being a battle with the Americans vs the British. The battle ended with many casualties from both sides, mostly the British side. The Americans had only 93 casualties, while the British had 300 casualties .

Why was it important:

The battle of Lexington and Concord marked the first battle for the independence of America. This battle is also known for its famous quote, “The shot heard around the world”, this is because neither side knows who fired first.

Sugar Act

When: 1764

What was it about:

The king of England placed taxes on the colonists to hopefully gain a lot of money from the colonists. One of those acts of taxation was the Sugar Act, which raised the income, and duty on sugar and molasses not obtained.

Why was it important:

This act from the king of England, was the first act seen by the colonists as a way to gain power over them. They were following the king’s rule even though they lived nowhere near Europe or the king.

Tea Act

When: 1773

What was it:

The Tea Act was a law passed by the King, to raise taxes on tea since it was the most important resource to the colonists and British. The Tea Act also only allowed for British tea to be used, without a tariff to the colonists.

Why was it important:

The Tea Act led to the British having a tea monopoly, where they gained lots of money from the taxes placed on tea. This Act also led the colonists to rebel against the British; and led to the idea of the Boston Tea Party.

The Stamp Act was a law passed by the king, which didn’t allow colonists to buy things used daily, without paying tax. The English men would then stamp your item to show that the tax of that iteam had been paid.

Why was it important:

The Stamp Act led the colonists to boycott many British goods, that contained very high taxes. The Stamp Act also created the very famous phrase known by people around the world, “ No taxation without representation”. This was hinted to the fact that colonists believed it was unfair to be taxed by the king without a colonist representative around.
