The process of creating a plan or drawing produced to show the look and function or workings of a building before it is built.

Ordering Principles

Fundamental principles that guide the organization and arrangement of elements in a design to achieve a harmonious and balanced composition.

Concept

A general idea or understanding that forms the basis for design decisions. It's the overarching theme or vision behind a project.

Applied Concepts

The practical implementation or execution of conceptual ideas in the design process.

Design Idea

A specific concept or notion that drives the development of a design.

Plans

Detailed drawings or diagrams that represent a horizontal section through a building. They include floor plans, site plans, and other views that show the layout of a structure.

Model

A physical or digital representation of a design, providing a three-dimensional understanding of how the final structure will appear.

Schemes

Organized and systematic plans or designs, often involving a series of related elements.

Architectural Composition

The arrangement and organization of architectural elements to create a unified and aesthetically pleasing whole.

Architectural Criteria

Standards or guidelines used to evaluate the success of a design, often based on functional, aesthetic, and technical considerations.

Spatial Criteria

Criteria related to the organization and utilization of space within a design.

Technical Criteria

Standards related to the technical aspects of a design, including construction methods, materials, and engineering considerations.

Functional Criteria

Standards related to the functionality and purpose of a design, ensuring it meets the intended use.

Formal Criteria

Standards related to the visual and aesthetic qualities of a design.

Front View, Top View, Lateral View, Rear View

Different perspectives or viewpoints of a design, depicting how it appears from various angles.

Composition Shape

The overall form or shape of a design as it relates to its visual composition.

Space

The physical and visual expanse within and around a structure, including both enclosed and open areas.

Circulation Elements

Elements within a design that facilitate movement and flow, such as corridors, staircases, and pathways.

Axonometry

A type of drawing that represents a three-dimensional object in two dimensions with distortion to show depth.

Symmetry

The balanced arrangement of parts on either side of a central point, axis, or plane.

Planimetry

The representation of a floor plan, showing the layout and arrangement of spaces within a building.

Level

A horizontal plane or floor within a building.

Architectural Plan

A detailed drawing or diagram that shows the layout of a building from an overhead view.

Cut

A section of a design that is revealed by cutting through it, showing internal details.

Longitudinal Section

A vertical cut through a building, revealing its internal features along a lengthwise axis.

Cross Section

A cut through a building, perpendicular to its length, revealing internal details.

Spatial Experiences

The qualitative and subjective aspects of how individuals perceive and interact with the spaces within a design.

The Structure

The framework or skeleton of a building, providing support and stability.

Active Spatial Situation

The dynamic and interactive nature of spaces, considering how people move and engage with the environment.

Spatial Relationship

The way in which elements within a design relate to and interact with each other in terms of space and placement.

Facade

The exterior face or front of a building.

Front Facade, Lateral Facade

The exterior frontal or lateral front of a building.

Organization

The systematic arrangement and coordination of elements within a design.
