Pursuing goals can be challenging, and individuals may face setbacks or doubts along the way. Be a source of emotional support and encouragement. Offer a shoulder to lean on and a listening ear, and let the person know that you are there for them.

Practise active listening by giving your full attention to the person who is seeking support. Maintain eye contact, nod, and use verbal cues to show that you are engaged and interested in what they have to say. Avoid interrupting or offering immediate solutions. Instead, allow them to express themselves fully and be present to listen without judgement.

Validate and acknowledge the emotions and experiences of the person seeking support. Let them know that their feelings are valid and that you understand the challenges they are facing. Show empathy and compassion by expressing understanding and offering words of encouragement.

Provide guidance and share your knowledge or expertise related to their goals. Offer insights, suggestions, and advice based on your own experiences or expertise in the relevant areas. Identify resources, such as books, articles, workshops, or training programmes, that can help them acquire the necessary skills or knowledge to move forward. Be proactive in providing valuable information and resources that can support their progress.

Stay connected and follow up with the person to see how they are doing. Offer ongoing support and check-in on their progress or well-being. Let them know that you are there for them even after the initial conversation or situation has passed. Consistent support can make a significant impact and strengthen your relationship.

Be a source of motivation and encouragement. Offer words of affirmation and praise for their efforts and progress. Help them focus on their strengths and remind them of their capabilities. Encouragement can boost their confidence and provide the support they need to keep going.

Everyone has different boundaries and preferences when it comes to receiving support. Respect their boundaries and be mindful of their comfort levels. Ask if they are open to receiving advice or assistance before offering it. Being respectful of their autonomy and preferences is essential in being supportive.
