That's why King Henry VIII decided to reject Catholicism, and to create a new official religion in 1534: the Church of England.
England used to be a Catholic country until 1534.
King Henry VIII wanted to divorce his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, in order to marry Anne Boleyn, because he wanted to have a son, but the Pope* did not accept.
Henry VIII became the head of the new Church, divorced his wife and he imposed this new religion in England. Then, he ordered the dissolution of Catholic religious houses.
