Brief biography

Descartes, born in 1596, was a French mathematician, scientist and philosopher. He was one of the first to abandon aristotelianism, and formluated the first mind-body dualism. And he is generally regarded the father of modern philosophy.

Descartes lived with his grandmother and his great-uncle.His father had expected him to enter parliament, but at that time he was only 20, while the age to enter parliament was 27. After attaining a degree in civil law, he moved from Poitou to Paris.

He had also studied mathematics and astronomy at Leiden University. He died of pneuomonia on the 1st of February, 1560.

Why are they remembered?

Descartes is a remembered philosopher as he is highly regarded as the father of modern phiolosophy and has a high education (he has studied law, mathematics, astronomy and philosophy).However, his most famous quote "cogito, ergo sum" (I think therefore I am - orginally in French) and its huge populariy found in The Discoure of the Method and the Principles of Philosophy is probably the biggest reason.

How i think he was as aperson

Descartes comes off as the type of person who isn't gullible and is very skeptic of popular beliefs. In the same manner, he also comes off as a flamboyant person as his father was a member of parliament, and later on, the Queen of Sweden was impressed by his works.He thinks rather than follow conventinoal beliefs (like crying at his daughter's funeral, when crying was looked down upon for men).
