1775-1783
First battles of the Revolution; Battle of Lexington took place first and began when British redcoats were going to arrest John Hancock and Samuel Adams. Battle of Concord began when British marched to destroy ammunition and weapons that were stored there.
Sent an offering of peace to the King but upon being ignored, George Washington was chosen as the leader of the army because of his prior war experience during the French and Indian War.
List of grievances against the British. Mainly written by Thomas Jefferson, the point was that natural rights were violated and as such the colonies wanted independence.
After participating in the Revolution, women wanted expanded roles in politics and society. Abigail Adams in particular was very influential and advocated for women's suffrage and equal education opportunities.
