Significance of the Declaration of Independence:

Declaration of Independence

Delegates got together and officially declared independence from Britain. The primary author, Thomas Jefferson, wrote to encapsulate the sentiment and mind of the colonists over to Parliament and the King. The declaration stated how the people of America are justified to revolt and overthrow a tyrannical government.

Significance of Valley Forge

The winter of 1777-78 is known as the Winter of Valley Forge. This was not the worst winter experienced during the war, but regular freezing plus intermittent snowfall and rain, coupled with shortages of provisions, clothing, and shoes, made living conditions extremely difficult. George Washington held the Patriots together during this dire time.
