Overview
The Greensboro Sit Ins were a journey that black students in Greensboro conquered. They set out to sit at many different white only lunch counters until they were served. They were met with violence and cruel people, but responded with calm attitudes. These students inspired everyone around the country to take a stand as well. In the end, city governments chose to hold peace with the protestors so that businesses would stop losing profit.

+ Info
This is one of many lunch counters that black people sat in during the sit-ins.
These are signs that people made and protested with if they weren't in a sit in.
This is the Woolworth whites only lunch counter and integrated grocery store that many sit ins were held in.
Many people protested with these signs that encouraged others to join in and take a stand. This is important because without these signs and protestors it would be hard to spread word as fast as they did.
Woolworth was one of the only integrated places to shop at, however they had a whites only lunch counter. This is important because the people sitting in there were treated badky and not served yet they were allowed to get up and shop there. Why not just integrate all of Woolworth's?
These lunch counters started all of the determination in the sitting ins. Notice how there are 4 seats? This is where the 1st group of students did the first sit in and got treated horribly and very violently.

Overview
Rosa Parks + The Bus Boycott
Back to event
Rosa Parks was a black woman who was tired of giving in to unfair segregation laws. One day, she stepped onto an empty bus to get where she needed to be. Blacks were only allowed to sit in the back of the bus, but there was no one there. She sat down in the very front row which were reserved for whites, and got arrested for it. Rosa Parks was mistaken for being tired from a day's work, but she was just tired of giving in. After news of her arrest spread, blacks started boycotting the buses to suppot her.
+ Info
This is Rosa Parks on the empty bus before she was arrested
This is important because she is standing up for herself and all blacks by having the courage to sit where she wants. She is tired of giving into white people and following their rules that just keep getting more unfair for blacks.
This is the note that Rosa Parks wrote after her being arrested
This is important because it addresses the thoughts people had. People thought she was tired from work, but she was tired of the sgregated life she lived every signle day. She found it unfair, and her bravery inspired others.
These are the drivers that drove people around since blacks were boycotting buses.
This is important because these drivers were black and white and stood up for everyone. They were replacing the buses and helping everyone to stick to staying off the bus.
Martin Luther King was a young black man who was the voice of most blacks to gain equality and rights. King led the march on Washington and was the speaker and creator of I Have A Dream. So many people of every race and skin color showed up to march at Washington and his speech. He led peaceful protests and stayed non violent for his whole life. The March on Washington made a very big impact on Congress and white people because it was eye opening. The I Have A Dream speech was the biggest voice at the time and said a lot about King's dream for the future that felt unreachable in every african-american's life at the time. He was killed at a young age but left behind a very big impact and motivated everyone else to fight for the same reason.

Martin Luther King and The March On Washington
These are examples of the signs people made and marched with.
People made signs with words like freedom and equal rights to gain attention by those not marching. This is important because even though they weren't King or didn't say the I Have A Dream speech, they stood tall and marched for the same reason.
+ Info
This is the I Have A Dream speech that Martin wrote to say.
The I Have A Dream speech was maybe the most memorable speech in history. Martin Luther King didn't even use the script he wrote when speaking because he truly felt so strongly about what he was saying, that he didn't need to read it. His words came straight from his heart and determination.
This is the route that the people marched during the March on Washington
This long route on this paper is the path people followed while marching for rights before King's speech. This is important because many people remember this day for King's speech, but it is about the people fighting for themselves and their lives.
