The Second Continental Congress met in Philidelphia to form the continental army. And because of his prior exprerience fighting in the French and Inidan War, George Washington was chosen as leader of the army.

During the Revoultion Women wanted a greater role in society. After many letters from Abigail Adams, who advocated for women's rights, John Adams, along with a few others, asked women to teach their children about republicanism values. This became known as Republican Motherhood.

Impact of The Crisis:
The American Crisis was written by Thomas Paine and stressed the idea that American people need to support Troops. This was because many men were only enlisting for a few months, never re-enlisting, which caused the army to suffer.

Significance of the Battle of Saratoga:
At this point in the Revolution, the Patriots are struggling. However, this particualr battle bacame a MAJOR turning point, and with the help of the French, the colonists won.

Significance of Valley Forge:
George Washington kept the troops in Valley Forge during the winter, however many died due to the harsh conditions. This is also when foreigners like Lafayette and Steuben helped train troops with basic militaty skills.

Significance of the Battle of Yorktown:
Battle of Yorktown
This took place in 1781 when Washington and Rochambeau marched to Virginia, with the help of the French, trapped Cornwallis from escaping. They did this in Yorktown, which was a peninusla, and one month later the British surrendered.

Explain what America gains:
Treaty of Paris, 1783
After the colonists become independent, the Treaty of Paris is passed, and US boundaries are expanded. Britain and the US agree to pay back any debt from before the war, and return slaves/property.
