Significance/Importance of Battle:
Lexington & Concord
The battles of Lexington and Concord were the first of the American Revolution and were referred to as "The shot heard round the world." Both battles occured as a result of indepence being declared from Britain a year prior and began due to British infultration.

Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress acted as a form of government for the colonists. They formed the Continental Army and appointed George Washington as leader due to his experience in leadership and fighting in the French and Indian War.

Impact of the Role of Women & Republican Motherhood:
Remember the Ladies
During the revolution, women began having a larger contribution in efforts against the British. While the men were away at war or in meetings, women would practice "Republican Motherhood" which is the teaching of republican values to the family. This all led to many women seeking greater roles in society and politics as a whole.

Significance of the Declaration of Independence:
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was primarly authored by Thomas Jefferson and was a list of complaints against KIng George III. It also explained the ways in which the colonists believed King George III had violated their natural rights and that because of this the colonists wanted independence from Britain.

Impact of The Crisis:
Authored by Thomas Paine, the writer of Common Sense, The Crisis served as a way to encourage struggling colonists. The Crisis was published during a pivotal point in the war and spoke of how even though the situation seemed dire at the moment, the outcome of the colonists' hard work would be worth it.

Battle of Saratoga
Significance of the Battle of Saratoga:
Americans desperately needed support from outside sources and often turned to France, however, France remained neutral for some time. America's victory at the Battle of Saratoga proved to France that helping America would not be hopeless and so France became America's ally.

Valley Forge
Significance of Valley Forge:
George Washington led his troops to settle in Vally Forge but this ended up leading to the deaths of many. Approximately 1/5 of the soldiers died due to disease and starvation as they lacked food and clothing and were experiencing harsh winters.

Significance of the Battle of Yorktown:
Battle of Yorktown
With help from the French naval fleet, Washington and Fr. Gen. Jean Rochambeau trapped British Gen. Lord Charles Cornwallis in the peninsular town of Yorktown, forcing him to surrender. The victory in Yorktown was an important part in earning Americans independence from Britain.

Treaty of Paris, 1783
The Treaty of Paris marked the US as independent. Boundaries in the US were extended west to the Mississippi River and had each side repay debts owed before the war.
