Who is EF?

EF High School Exchange Year has been promoting global awareness through student exchange for over 40 years. We bring more students to the US than any other high school exchange program. EF Education First is the world leader in experiential learning. Each year, over a million people travel the world, learn a language, participate on a cultural exchange, or earn a degree with an EF program.

Since 1979, our organization has connected more than 100,000 international students with caring host families across America. We proudly work alongside the US Department of State in promoting public diplomacy through our program.

What is an IEC?

International Exchange Coordinators are the local representatives of EF High School Exchange Year, located in or around the community. As an IEC, I am the primary contact person for students and host families. I am your first phone call whenever you have a question or need assistance.

Why becoame an exchange student?

Going abroad as a foreign exchange student will give you a big leg up, whatever your future goals. Not only will your language skills improve, but you'll gain in independence and come home with an entirely new perspective on what it means to be a citizen of the world.

EF High School Exchange Year is the student's official program sponsor. We work collaboratively with the EF offices in their home countries to communicate regularly with our program participants. This way, we ensure quality and compliance with rules and regulations that govern the program. Additional responsibilities include: - Screening and preparing host families and students - Helping families select the right student for their home- Overseeing high school enrollment- Arranging student visas- Coordinating student travel to/from the US- Supporting local IECs, students, high schools and EF host families- Communicating with student's parents

Where do foreign exchange students come from? EF exchange students come from 13 countries across Europe and Asia. They hail from a diverse set of communities and backgrounds which help to offer interesting students to host.

Our host families give your students a chance to experience maximum cultural immersion by living as locals – with locals. Host families, give students the opportunity to gain a deeper insight into our local culture, pick up expressions with much greater ease and return home with a more authentic understanding of America and the world.

Omaha has long been a place of convergence. In the mid-1800s, it served as the easternmost point of the first transcontinental railroad. Today, its location at the heart of the country has earned Omaha a reputation as a flyover city. But those who live in Omaha know there's more to this metro area than most outsiders realize. It's a region that celebrates and treasures the past while warmly embracing change and growth. The metro area that once brought you TV dinners and Reuben sandwiches now house fancy seafood restaurants and hip vegan options (though you'll never have trouble finding a hearty steak). And while ranchers continue to raise cattle on the sprawling prairies surrounding the region, Omaha proper has begun to attract a number of budding new tech startups.
