INTRODUCTION

What is RAM?

Ram memory is one of the basic and fundamental components for the computer to function.

+INFO

Origin

when it was created?

Info

The first RAM memory was invented in 1947 by John von Neumann.

Then 2 decades later, In 1966, Robert H. Dennard, developed the DRAM (dynamic random access memory) of a transistor.

His invention made RAM faster and cheaper to manufacture and ushered in a new era of computing.

John von Neumann called it a "carousel"; later he also called it "Random Access Memory".

70s

1970 - Dynamic RAM (DRAM)
1968 - First magnetic core RAM
In 1970, Intel developed dynamic RAM (DRAM), which used a single transistor and capacitor to store each bit of information
Magnetic core RAM became the dominant technology in the 1960s. In 1968, IBM released the first magnetic core RAM with a capacity of 16 KB.
DRAMs were cheaper and denser than magnetic core RAM, but required constant refreshing of stored data.
These RAM were faster and more reliable than vacuum tube RAM.

what happened next?

80s

1987 - First synchronous random access RAM (Synchronous DRAM)
1983 - Static RAM (SRAM)
Static RAM (SRAM) was developed in the 1980s and was used in devices that required high data access speeds.
In 1987, IBM developed the first synchronous random access RAM (Synchronous DRAM), which synchronized the system clock speed with the speed of RAM
SRAMs were faster and more expensive than DRAMs, and were used in devices such as processor caches and disk caches.
This allowed for faster data access speed and better system performance.

1993 - Dual Data RAM (DDR)
2000 - Dual Channel DDR
In 1993, Siemens developed dual-data (DDR) RAM, which could transfer data twice per clock cycle compared to regular RAM.
Dual Channel DDR RAM was introduced in 2000 and allowed the processor to access two RAM modules simultaneously, increasing data transfer speed.
DDR was faster than SDRAM and became the dominant technology for personal computer RAM.
Dual Channel DDR is used in high-end systems.

2014 - DDR4 RAM
2007 - DDR3 RAM
DDR4 RAM was launched in 2014 and is the latest in the line of evolution of RAM
In 2007, DDR3 RAM was released, which was faster and more energy efficient than DDR2
DDR4 is faster and more power efficient than DDR3, making it ideal for high-end systems.
DDR3 is used in mid-range and high-end systems.

DDR5 memory improves computer performance for resource-intensive tasks, gaming, and work applications. It enhances speed and efficiency, offers future compatibility, and simplifies RAM expansion, extending the computer's life and reducing costs.
2021 - DDR5 RAM
DDR5 RAM is the latest standard out of the world, and it has superior features to DDR4 and DDR3.
With DDR5 memory you can mount a computer with the latest technology. RAM is one of the essential components for the computer to run and boot.

CONCLUSION

In short, RAM is an essential component in computers that provides quick access to data and programs in use. Although it has limitations, such as its volatility and limited capacity, its advantages are critical to the performance and efficiency of the computer. The right amount of RAM is crucial for optimal operation, and upgrades can improve the performance of an existing computer. Ultimately, RAM plays a key role in user experience and the ability to perform tasks effectively and efficiently.

what is your function ?

Its main function is to temporarily store data and instructions that the processor may need in the future. This stored information will be crucial to be able to run programs, games and even the operating system.
