What are language heterogeneity and variation? Give 3 examples.

When we speak of heterogeneity, it is because we say that languages are not the same, that is, each one has its particularities and variations according to the context, reality, gender, age, profession, among other factors. In a country, for example, there will not be homogeneity in its inhabitants since each municipality or department has its own idioms or "jargons" as we know them. Another example could be the terminology used by each profession; a lawyer will not use the same words as a teacher. Another example could be the children and adults, or the socioeconomic strata where the language varies according to the reality that the person lives.

What are language heterogeneity and variation?

languages are not homogeneous entities speakers vary the way they talk depending on a large number of factors are language internal, where speech production and perception are influenced by for exmaple the phonology, grammar, lexicon or pragmatics of the speakr´s , language, dialect or utterance.

What is linguistic?

Linguistics is a discipline that studies the more profund of the natural languages, for example: languages, lexical, speak form, pronuntiation and as is comportamient of the human being.

What is the relation between Linguistics with the Sociolinguistics study object?

According to Ferdinand de Saussure, the object of linguistics is the study of language as a social product. Sociolinguistics, on the other hand, seeks to understand language as it is used by speakers and the relationship between language and society. Therefore, it is possible to argue that as communities appropriate their language and generate changes in it, linguistic enrichment occurs, as can be seen in the evolution of our language since Latin. In this way, both disciplines mutually enrich each other.

Why is it important to carry out Socio - linguistics studies?

I think it is important to do sociolinguistic studies because language is linked to society, I have seen, for example, people who isolate themselves, have a very precarious language development. If, for example, a small child were isolated, he/she would have very rudimentary behaviors, but if he/she were surrounded by people again, that person would try to organize a language to make him/herself understood. Socio-linguistic study is important as long as we can understand how language interacts in different contexts, helping us, for example, to understand different realities, to offer a more interconnected world and to overcome barriers and difficulties. Helping us to grow as a society.

How does language or the use of the “meaning of words” become a tool of Social and Political power?

Speech, beyond being a form of communication and expression of ideas, is a powerful weapon that has the ability to build worlds and stories from previous experiences or fictitious facts. Language is the main form of communication between human beings and through it, power is repeatedly exercised, influencing positively or negatively a specific society or the entire planet. It could be said that all discourse is charged with the desire to convince the interlocutors. Throughout history, we can find many examples of this type. We find speeches that instill terror, such as those delivered by Pinochet after the death of President Allende and his seizure of power by force of arms. On the other hand, there is the heart-rending speech delivered by Allende in the face of grief and prior to his suicide, as well as countless speeches that have marked our history. We could mention the speeches of Churchill, Hitler, Martin Luther King and Mandela. Each of them, from their own ideology, used words and speeches to convince others of what, from their perspective, needed to be done to make their nations or the world a better place. Of course, many of us believe in some of these speeches and they become inspirations for later generations. That is the importance of discourse: it manages to reach others and allows us to modify or reaffirm our own ideas based on an idea heard from someone else.

What is Linguistics?

Linguistics is the science that studies our language, its origin and how it develops, its history has its bases in the Greek world with philosophers such as Plato, Socrates and Aristotle and has been transforming until today, with all those theoretical contributions in history, the most relevant such as those of Chomsky. It is important to know that linguistics has four important levels:

  • Phonology: Studies the sounds of the language.
  • Morphology: Studies the structure of words.
  • Syntax: Studies the combinations of words.
  • Semantics: Studies the meaning of words.

3. What are language heterogeneity and variation?

In the study of Sociolinguistic there are a different hypothesis compared to Chomsky proposal, that said that in each language the individuals share many characteristics in grammar and phonetic, and even in the languages in general most of the things are common, instead of that the sociolinguistic propose that the language has many varieties depending of the social context but also the situation in which the interaction is happening , for example, it is not the same the way to speak when a person is in an formal context compared when is in an informal situation . This heterogeneity is related to the cultural setting but there are also a large number of reasons why a person speaks in a certain way, for example there a are internal production of the language related to the acquisition of the grammar, syntaxis and phonetic, but also the speakers build knowledge through experience and input.

What is Linguistics?

Linguistics is the science that deals with the study of the way in which a language is organized and the characteristics it presents, its object of study as previously indicated is the language as a social product, to study all the aspects that compose it, linguistics is subdivided as follows:

  • Phonetics: it oversees the study of sounds.
  • Phonology: It oversees the study of the way sounds work.
  • Semantics: It oversees the study of meanings.
  • Grammar: It oversees the study of the rules within sentences, from which they are derived:
  • Syntax: which is responsible for studying the order that is presented within the sentence and the relationship that develops between words.
  • Morphology: It studies the form of words, their roots, suffixes, and affixes.
  • Orthography: It oversees establishing the rules for the correct use of letters and punctuation marks in writing.
  • Prosody: It studies the language from orality, it oversees elements such as accents, tone and intonation.

Why is it important to carry out Socio - linguistics studies?

Because, these studies look for a different perspective of how humans communicate among us, also it takes in to account many perspectives and study them in an empirical way, involving all the branches that could be part of this science, finally the sociolinguistics are interesting and develop the investigation in an area that is fundamental in daily life like it is the language.

What are language study object of sociolinguistics?

sociolinguistics is studies of the facet of the relationship between language and community, sociolinguistics have three object variation, evolution, and description of the language.

Why is it important to carry out Socio - linguistics studies?

The study of sociolinguistics allows us to understand how language changes and interacts according to social, cultural and geographical contexts. From this particular use, more effective communication can be generated. It also facilitates the planning and development of inclusive scenarios that encourage the participation and interaction of speakers in the classroom, thus contributing to the constant growth of our language.

What is the study object of sociolinguistics?

The object of study of sociolinguistics is the interaction between language and society, we understand that as human beings we are social subjects and communication has been practically one of the reasons for human evolution. In addition to the readings of the course I have previously read "Sapiens: from animals to gods" book by Yuval Noah Harari (excellent book). Where he explains how since our beginnings we have felt the need to "gossip" to communicate, to express our needs and desires. Starting from symbols, signs and all kinds of mechanisms, the evolution of language has been significant and has always been linked to society, which is the way in which we group people, where we share interests and responsibilities.

Why is it important to carry out sociolinguistics studies?

Is very important the sociolinguistic because allows the teacher to convert the abilities of the children and is cultural so this is important for the process complete of reading, and writing, finally ¨The teacher with transmitter and cultivator of the culture of researchers of the origen of his popula4tion student form them with relevance and contectuality¨Quiñones,2016.

What is linguistics?

The linguistic is the science that study the language and everything related to it, include the story of how the humans being developed the ability to speak and communicate with others, there are 4 principal branches that compose the linguistics they are: phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. Each one of these aspects have been widely studied, and it is remarkable to say that according to the language the way to express the ideas change, because of that, these aspects of the linguistic change too, for example the phonetic varies depend of the roots of every language, and the conditions that where applied during the development of it.

What is the study object of sociolinguistic?

Sociolinguistic studies the relation between language and society, in this area there are many things that are very important to take in to account , we can find multiple variations depending of the language and even in the same language the individuals have a variation of how they speak, different factors like the environment , the back ground, the slang , the economic and social conditions etc. determinate the way the language is developed, all of this issues are the object in which the sociolinguistic works as a science, sociolinguistic is really wide because it pretends to explain the way humans communicate their thoughts and ideas in a social context.
