Definition of the topic
A newspaper is a periodical that contains news, reports, chronicles, interviews, advertisements and other information of public interest It is a mass medium whose main function is communication and is one of the fastest ways to stay informed about what is happening in the world. Newspapers can be daily or weekly. The main characteristics of a newspaper are: the use of "press paper" - cheaper and of lower quality than that used by other printed materials; its own language - within what is understood as journalistic language; and it is a means of mass communication - a cultural good that is consumed by the masses. Newspapers have generic content, as they publish news and opinions that cover the most diverse social interests. However, there are also newspapers with specialized content on the economy, business or sport, among others. The most common periodicity of newspapers is daily, but there are also weekly, fortnightly and monthly ones. The newspaper was the first - and, for a long time, the main - professional space for journalism.
HISTORY
It is not known for sure which was the world's first newspaper, but historians believe that the first was the Acta Diurna. The Acta Diurna was created by the emperor of the time, Julius Caesar, in the year 59 BCE.
How the newspaper is classified today
The newspaper is now used by older peolple, but it is still classified as a good and useful mean of communication
Newspaper is still very used despite the fact that the means of communication have evolved a lot, the newspaper is still used by various ages. Around 43% of Portuguese with an average age of 50-75+ read newspapers frequently and 17% only use paper editions, according to the study 'Cultural Practices of the Portuguese', carried out by the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon, with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

The importance of the newspaper in society
•As the world is advancing rapidly, everything is becoming digital. From our shopping to news, we can easily do it on our smartphones or computers. This digitization has also affected the newspaper scenario. As people are getting instant updates on their phones about the latest news, the sales of newspapers have gone down massively.
•Newspaper sales have fallen immensely due to virtual newspapers, but they still continue to be sold and it's an asset for the elderly who many of them can't get to grips with the new technologies and so can keep up to date with the newspapers.
•Other than that, newspapers also have incredible articles that tackle social issues, cultures, arts, and more. It conveys the public opinion to the people on important issues. This will, in turn, help people review the government and ministers well. Similarly, people get great employment opportunities from newspapers. Those seeking jobs look through newspapers to get reliable job opportunities.
•In short, the newspaper carries a lot of significance for humans. If we read the newspaper daily, it can develop our reading habit and make us more fluent. It also has mind-brain exercise games like puzzles, Sudoku and more to sharpen people’s brains. Furthermore, you can also go through the comic strips and cartoons to keep yourself entertained.

Charlie Hebdo attack
This massacre had a huge impact on how the newspaper began to be seen.
It made many newspapers at the time realize that they couldn't publish everything they wanted, because they could be seriously offending certain cultures and religions.
The Charlie Hebdo Massacre was a terrorist attack that damaged and hit the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo and took place on January 7, 2015.
This attack resulted in twelve deaths and five seriously injured.
All the dead have been identified: editor and cartoonist Stéphane Charbonnier, known as Charb, legendary cartoonist Wolinski, economist and deputy editor Bernard Maris and cartoonists Jean Cabu and Bernard Verlhac, known as Tignous, as well as cartoonist Phillippe Honoré, proofreader Mustapha Ourad and psychoanalyst Elsa Cayat, who wrote a fortnightly column for Charlie Hebdo called "Divan".
Charlie Hebdo is a satirical newspaper, highly rated for its anti-religious content. This terrorist attack took place after Charlie Hebdo published a caricature of the prophet Mohammed.
Our opinion:
In our opinion, the newspaper is a means of communication that will inevitably end up becoming extinct after further advances in technology and the more practical ways that exist to pass on the information that the newspaper passes on through paper will probably be replaced by something less physical and more technological.
