Reflection strategies to help students retain what you just taught them. Reflecting takes many forms in the classroom. Great teachers reflect on their daily practice. In the same way, students need to reflect on their actions and their work in order to build their classroom community and increase their own knowledge and skills.
• Create an activity for which it is truly advantageous for students to work together. • Make this task clear to students by writing specific instructions on the board or on a worksheet & include : • The learning objective: Why are the students doing this? • The specific task: “Decide,” “List,” “Prioritize,” “Solve,” “Choose.” • The expected product: for example, reporting back to the class; handing in a sheet of paper; distributing a list of questions to the class. • The method of reporting out; that is, of sharing group results with the class. • During group work, as tempting as it may be, do not disengage from your class and sit at the front of the room! Circulate and listen to your students . • Are they on task, or are they talking about their weekend plans? • Are students understanding the concepts and the assignment, or are they all stuck and confused? • Do they have questions for you? • Pull up a chair and join each group for a while. • When a student in a group asks you a question, the natural reflex is to answer it. That’s your job, isn’t it?
The teacher will ask students to create a quiz related to the lesson that they have finished.
the teacher will prepare simple questions and write them on the balloon, then the students will work in groups and pass the balloon between them to solve all, and if the answers are correct, they will be the winner. ( you can use timer)
ThinkDOTS is a great activity for students to construct meaning for themselves and to engage in processing their learning. It is a strategy used to review, demonstrate, and extend thinking. Choice is given to the students but they still complete the required learning tasks - just in the order they roll the die.
To silently reflect, generate ideas, check on learning, develop projects or solve problems. It can be used productively with any group. Because Chalk Talk is done in silence, it gives groups a change of pace, encourages thoughtful contemplation, and reduces the risk often felt in verbal conversations.
Hot Chair strategy for reflection after explanation or reviewing. You will use the wheel of names to add suspense and choose the names randomly. The student who is chosen will set in the chair 🪑 in front of his colleagues then you will write a word on the board His colleagues will try to explain this word and he should guess what is this word.
