Felipe Gil De Mena ( Valladolid 1603) was a painter of the romanticism and disciple and follower from another painter called Diego Valentín Díaz. He was a religius painter and was specialized in the realistic paints and portraits of the churches and catholic events. PAINTINGS: "Fiesta en la plaza mayor de Valladolid", " Aparición de María" and "San Francisco de Asís y Santo Domingo"
As a last activity, the museum has an Escape room.
People go through different rooms answering questions and demonstrating what they have learned during their visit to the museum. Seeing paintings by Dióscoro Puebla, browsing books by José Zorrilla... At the end they will be given a special diploma as recognition. This activity is completely free, and most enjoyable for children and young people.
René Frémin studied at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. In 1694 he won the Rome Prize for sculpture. Returning to France, he made sculptures for the park of Rambouillet Castle and the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles. We also owe him the decoration of the façade of the building that houses the La Samaritaine pump on the Pont Neuf in Paris.. He was disciple of zacarías González Velázquez and he usually painted in oil. PAINTINGS: "Rey Carlos III funda la colonia "La Carolina"", his self-portrait and the portrait of Carlos IIII.
(Tencry, Lorena, 1701-Madrid, 1781). French sculptor. His presence was requested by the King of Spain to work in the gardens of La Granja de San Ildefonso and he was appointed director of the works. Matías Laviña y Blasco (Zaragoza, February 24, 1796 - Madrid, January 15, 1868) was a Spanish architect, one of the main people responsible for the restoration project of the Cathedral of León in the 19th century. He was a student at the Academy of San Lucas, obtaining the title of architect in 1830. He obtained the chair of decorative drawing at the Academy of San Fernando. In 1859 he was commissioned by the Spanish government to restore the cathedral of León. Outstanding works: -Palace of the Duke of Granada de Ega in Madrid (1851). -Palace of the Duke of Veragua in Madrid (1860). -Renovation of the Villahermosa Palace in Zaragoza. -Reform of the Cathedral of León.
Narciso Pascual Colomer (Madrid, 1808-Lisbon, June 15, 1870) was a Spanish architect, one of the most relevant of the reign of Isabel II.He moved to Madrid where he graduated from the Architecture section of the Academy of San Fernando in 1833.HIt is worth mentioning the work of the Vista Alegre Palace or the Palace of the Marquis of Salamanca (1845-1858), among other notable works. He was part of the commission responsible for Architectural Monuments of Spain. More important works: The Palace of the Cortes of Spain (1843-1850). The Palace of the Marquis of Salamanca (1845-1858). Palace of the Congress of Deputies in Madrid.
The museum offers a guided tour of all sections of romantic art. Starting with the written works of Walter Scott, José Zorrilla and Juan Nicasio Gallego. The visit will continue with a stop at the paintings. More specifically those of Dióscoro Puebla, Felipe Gil de Mena and Victoriano López. After that, we will see the sculptures of Romanticism; observing the works of Humberto Dumandré, René Fremin and Jacques Bousseau. They have had a very important intervention in Castilla y León. Finally, we will see the architectural works of Matías Laviña, Narciso Pascual Colomer and Andrés García de Quiñones. During the tour, you will also see more about their lives and their relevance to Castilla y León.
Scottish writer, poet and editor, Walter Scott was one of the main figures of the romantic movement in Great Britain, whose historical novels, in which he is considered a true pioneer of the genre, became famous throughout Europe. After studying law in Edinburgh, Scott began to write until he reached his romantic historical works. Scott's historical works began with the publication of Waverley (1814) and Rob Roy, but it was with Ivanhoe (1819) that he achieved greater success that led him to write not only about other countries such as Louis France. . However, Scott kept his identity as a novelist a secret so that it would not interfere with his career as a poet.
