2/ Examples of Moral Dilemmas

1/ Meaning of Moral Dilemmas

- If there wasn't a litter bin, would you carry the litter home?- If you got a bad score on a test, would you lie to your parents? - If a friend made a cake and it tasted horrible, would you say it was nice? - If you were playing a game, would you cheat?

Moral Dilemmas are situations when one has to decide between two or more values or duties but it can only honor one of them. Thus, the individual will at least violate one moral concern, no matter which one they choose.

02, Some tycial family problems in Vietnamese families

+ Some typical family problems in Vietnamese families (Parents & Teenagers) are: Lack of Communication, demanding perfection, arguing, comparison, constant criticism, controlling, frequent lying to parents, spending too much time on Internet/works,... etc+ We have rated some of the problems in order.

Get their perspective.

03, Tips for teenagers

When you don't feel comfortable to talk, what should you do?

- Go out for a walk with friends or do things that you like. Avoid conflict if you can.- Seek outside for help. You can ask friends, or someone you trust to help you and give advice. - ...ect

04, A difficult choice

What would you do?

You and your family love the beach and decide to spend a weekend at an isolated beach cabin. Your teenage daughter often gets bored on your getaways, so you make plans to take your niece along. As soon as you arrive, a storm is looming on the horizon and the water looks rough. You tell the girls thay can get ready to swim, but to come back help unload the car. They are so excited. They don’t pay attention to the last part of what you say and run down the beach to swim. You don’t realize they have done until you hear your daughter scream. You realize they both caught in a strong current and might be swept out the sea. You are a good swimmer and know you can save one of them.

- Save your daughter first, because, although she’s a strong swimmer and may be able to last long enough for you to come back after saving your niece, you can’t stand the idea of losing her?

- Save your niece first as she is a poor swimmer and will not be able to last as long as your daughter?
