Cowboy Gator and Calamity Cow
Under the arid skies, Gator breathes in the heat
Another tumbleweed day, where shadows are discreet.
"Gator," trilled a tiny voice, "Cowboy Gator, I need your aid."
A hummingbird flit back and forth, his voice shaking and afraid.
"My family is starving, all the desert blooms are gone.
All the nectar is lost, the cows have mowed down the lawn.
"Calamity and her family are eating all the flowers.
They eat so much, yet, have clover and grass to scour."
"Why just eat the flower that we depend on with our lives?
We need a lot of nectar even thought we're of tiny size."
Cowboy Gator tipped his hat and gave a little chuff.
"I'll save your nectar so you'll always have enough."
Gator crossed the grasslands and climbed the curvy hills.
Through the hot days and cold nights that gave him chills.
He came upon Calamity and her family drove.
They were done eating and laid in a shaded grove.
"Ma'am," he approached gently, "we need to have a talk."
"Why don't you join me for a little walk?"
"Why are you eating all the flowers and not the clover and green grass?"
"The clover makes us bloated and gives us lots of gas."
"It's hard to eat the grass and not find clover too.
We can't see what we pick up or what we chew."
"Well, I know a valley with nothing but grass that's green.
"It's not far from here and there is no clover to be seen."
"That sounds marvelous!" rejoiced Calamity and clapped her happy hooves.
I'll gather up the family and we'll begin to move."
With that Gator had helped with Hummingbird's worry.
After the hummingbirds thanked him they went home in a hurry.
Gator had done it again; he kept peace across the land.
All it took was the time to listen and a calm head to understand.
Not every action is done to purposely hurt others.
We just need to talk and listen to one another.
