Read about the artwork below

"The Two Fridas" 1939 by Frida Kahlo
This painting was completed shortly after Frida Kahlos' divorce with Diego Rivera. The portrait shows Frida's two different personalities. One is the traditional Frida in Tehuana costume, with a broken heart, sitting next to an independent, brave, modern dressed Frida. In her diary, she wrote that the painting expressed her desperation and loneliness from the separation from Diego. We see a contrast of colors used in her dresses with a repetitive cloud pattern in the background that creates a sense of movement

"A Portrait of a Young Gentleman" 2022 by Kehinde Wiley
Kehinde Wiley is an African-American artist who takes classic paintings from the 17th-19th century and reworks them to represent ordinary Afro-Amer people in a position of power and wealth. This reworks the original paintings meaning and challenges tradition. Kehinde Wiley uses pattern, variety, and contrasting complimentary colors (orange and blue) in the gentleman's clothes and background to create a sense of unity and variety.

"10 Marilyns" 1963 by Andy Warhol
This painting is by Andy Warhol, a very popular artist from the 60's who challenged the definition of what is considered art. Warhol uses repetition, contrast and variety by repeating famous actress Marilyn Monroe's face over and over again with varying colors across the painting. Since she was a pop icon, he felt it was only right to use her as his inspiration. His use of contrast creates a sense of movement and has your eye jumping across the canvas almost searching for more.
