ENVIRONMENTAL CLASS

Context: Nowadays, we are experiencing a very important change due to pollution. The world is experiencing an amount of catastrophes that some years ago were unthinkable. For instance, events that once took millennia to happen now occur in just a matter of years. Some of these catastrophes affect humans, animals, and even plants; for example, the Idai Cyclone that happened in 2019, the earthquake happening in Morocco, the high number of fires that are appearing all around the world, and even the appearance of flowers in Antarctica.

ENVIRONMENTAL CLASS

Why do we need it?: Apart from all the reasons that we mentioned before and much more that we should take into account, we may not notice this big changes in the place we live in. We, as teachers, are going to have the future of the next generation in our hands, and we should be able to create a better world for them.
Task: Create a 1 hour lesson plan that indirectly aplies the environment.

ENVIRONMENTAL LESSON PLAN

What do you know about the 3R's?

ACTIVITIES

What are the 3Rs?

index

We use the 3Rs to explain: “Reducing” means using less, It’s about cutting down on waste from the start. “Reusing” means using things again instead of throwing them away. “Recycling” is the process of collecting and processing materials like paper, plastic, and glass so they can be turned into new products.

ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITY 1: RECYCLING

In this activity we will learn to distinguish the uses of the different containers in our cities. The children will have to reach an agreement by teams to correctly recycle the waste that they have been given. Afterwards, one member of each team will go to the blackboard and explain why they have thrown each item in the container they have chosen. In this way everyone will be able to see, what and why, is thrown in each container in the streets of their city. After this, everyone will conclude as to what is thrown in each container. Finally, an explanation will be given based on the conclusions that have been reached by all the students, the things that are not right will be corrected and the reason for it will be explained.

Procedure:

ACTIVITY 2: REUSE

Procedure:

We need:

Now we are going to do an activity to prove that we can reuse yogurts and use them as pots. First we can paint the yogurt. then we put a little bit of cotton and then the lentil and another bit of cotton, a little of water and wait until the plant grows.

Activity 3: REDUCE

The procedure of this is bringing self made clothes from home or even jewelry and show it to your students, then another day make a flea market in which they are the ones who bring clothes from home that they no longer want and make an exchange with the things that no longer serve their classmates, everyone leaves with something new instead of buying something else or throwing it away.
We'll look into the “reducing waste” point, focusing on one of the things that nowadays damage the environment; the textile industry. After the fossil fuel sector and agriculture, the fashion industry contributes approximately 10% of our annual carbon footprint, exceeding the combined emissions of all international flights and shipping combined. However, greenhouse gas emissions are not the only challenge in this sector: its water consumption is equivalent to the annual needs of five million people and it generates millions of tons of waste, including plastics, which pollute our oceans and the air we breathe.
In my opinion the best thing we can do is choose second hand clothing, that is more sustainable and also more cheap or if we want to buy new things opt for more durable and better quality brands. - Explain this problem and let the kids know that is enough with the things that they have. They are going to bring a t-shirt or any item that they don't like anymore and they can choose to change it with a partner if both prefer the other one item or change, by painting it, adding accessories, or cutting the piece of clothing, of course selling it on platforms like vinted or wallapop is also a good idea if none of the previous things work.

Activity 2

Regarding the YouTube video... What do you think about the video? What could "Violet" do to prevent this? What type of abuse is the boy using against her? What can we do to prevent this kind of situations?

Conclusion

index

Conclusion

Did you know that in Spain, since 2003, the year in which data on gender violence began to be recorded, until 2022, the numbers of sexist murders in Spain have decreased by just 29.57 percent? We have so much work ahead of us to reach gender inequality because, even if we did evolve as a society, we sare still facing thousends of injustices worldwide and we should definetly do better.

Social media poster

Here we can see very very summarized the problems that social media can cause, that are usually more than the beneficts, but of course as we can see there are some good things too. The solutions that we can see are not always effective, but with proffesional help we can avoid being so dependent of the Social media.

Here we have another example of the Social Media Poster, with more Pros and Cons and their respective solutions.
