It normally includes some expressions of time (KEYWORDS) indicating: FREQUENCY (usually, often, sometimes, always) A PARTICULAR MOMENT (yesterday, last week, when I was a child, one week ago,...) AN INDETERMINATE MOMENT (the other day, years ago, a long time ago)

(+) S + [ VERB(-)ED / IRREGULAR VERB ] ... Yesterday, you played paddle tennis. Last Wednesday, they won the contest. (-) S + DIDN'T + VERB ... Yesterday, you didn't play paddle tennis. Last Wednesday, they didn't win the contest. (?) DID + S + VERB ... Did you play paddle tennis yesterday? Did they win the contest last Wednesday?
Since you are using the auxiliar DID in the negative and interrogative structures, you will always use the infinitive after it!
