HOW TO AVOID MISINFORMATION

AND SPOT CREDIBLE SOURCES

CHECK THE DOMAIN

Always check the domain in the URL of a website; some of the most reliable ones are .org and.edu. You should not trust a .com or .net domain unless you know it's safe.

.COM

CHECK THE AUTHOR

If the information comes from an article, check the name of the author; if it doesn't say, or it is a made-up name, then the inmormation is probably unreliable.

HTTPS

HTTPS stands for 'Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure'. A website which has this at the start of its URL will not try to steal your data. You should avoid websites which don't have it.

HTTPS

SEARCH ONLINE

Checking things such as the reliablility of a webpage or a magazine/book/article online is probably the best option if it's a renowned one.

Opinion vs fact

Always make sure that the information you are receiving is meant to be a fact. Not satirical, not an opinion. Facts. This can be done by searching the web, too.
