Student Learning Resource Center
The Student Learning Resource Center (SLRC) at LSC-University Park offers various services to support students' academic journey. The library operates from Monday to Thursday between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It houses a diverse collection of articles and books tailored explicitly for research papers. Additionally, students can access tech and textbooks from the reserve collection, which are available for in-library use for up to two hours. For those seeking guidance in the research process, the library offers scheduled appointments for research assistance. Librarians can assist with topic selection, source finding, and citation. An online library database further facilitates research needs. The SLRC also hosts events and workshops focused on research and citations, both online and in person, to enhance students' research skills. Academic coaching is another pivotal service provided by the SLRC. The coaching staff offers guidance in various subjects, including writing, reading, ESOL, math (all levels), and sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, and A&P). During peak times, sessions with writing coaches may be limited to 20-30 minutes, and math coaches may circulate to assist multiple students. Students can utilize the upstairs Math & Science Lab and the Math and Science Hotspots for STEM-related assistance.
Bookstores
Lone Star College-University Park offers various bookstore services to cater to the diverse needs of students. Starting October 1st, a new Virtual Bookstore will be available, aiming to streamline the process of acquiring educational resources. This online platform will give students access to essential items such as textbooks, class supplies, and other products, allowing for a more efficient shopping experience. In addition to the Virtual Bookstore, there is a physical bookstore on campus where students can purchase required textbooks, study aids, supplies, and accessories in person. The available services include: Web Ordering: Students can order online with shipping to their home or free on-campus pickup. On-Campus Rental: Rentals can be returned at the bookstore. Exchanges/Refunds: These are processed at the physical bookstore. For those looking to sell their textbooks, a Buyback service is available at the campus bookstore and online through the bookstore website. Regarding financial aid, traditional aid is accessible through the LSC Book Advance program. Students with book advance funds can select financial assistance at the checkout on the bookstore website and enter their student ID to charge their aid. For non-traditional aid such as VA and vouchers, students should enter their program authorization number in the student ID field to charge their aid voucher accounts on the website.
Financial Aid Office
The Financial Aid Office at LSC-University Park is dedicated to assisting students and their families in covering educational expenses, including tuition, fees, books, and supplies, through various forms of financial assistance. Here is a concise overview of the available financial aid options: Scholarships: LSC-University Park utilizes ScholarshipUniverse, a system that connects students to internal and external scholarship opportunities based on their academic profiles. Scholarships, which do not need to be repaid, can be awarded based on merit, need, demographics, or career focus. Campus-specific scholarships are also available. Loans: Federal Direct Loans are available to undergraduate students attending college at least half-time. These loans, which must be repaid, can be used for tuition, books, and living expenses. Work-Study: The College Work-Study Program offers employment opportunities for students with financial needs, enabling them to earn money for educational expenses. The program promotes community service and work related to the student’s course of study. Work-study awards vary, and employment is not guaranteed. Grants: Grants are funds provided by the state of Texas and the federal government for students in need. LSC offers Federal Grants, State Grants, and Workforce Grants. These funds do not need to be repaid. Book Advances: Book Advances allow students to use a portion of their anticipated financial aid for purchasing textbooks and supplies. There are both on-campus and off-campus book advance options, with the on-campus option being automatically available to those who meet the requirements. Workforce Programs Scholarships: These scholarships are available for eligible students enrolling in specific Workforce Programs, covering the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, and other related expenses. Each financial aid option has specific eligibility criteria and application processes, and students are encouraged to explore all available opportunities to support their educational journey.
