Creating a useful, interactive language learning app that enhances learning through a game & personalisation based on users need.
About
Language learning apps often struggle to provide an effective lessons approach that are functional for a long-term retention. Limited opportunities for authentic speaking and listening practice, significantly decline user experience.
Context
Context

Studies show that "Graphics enhance many aspects of learning including recognition, recall, comprehension and problem-solving."
(Mintzer and Snodgrass, 1999, Paivio, 1971).
Context
This means that including graphics and interactivity does improve learning in many contexts and with many audience groups.
The picture superiority effect in recognition memory tasks refers to the observation that items studied as pictures are better remembered than items studied as words.
The aim of this project is to:
-Provide assistance with learning-Improve the long-term language retention -Enhance foreign language acquisition with graphic design
Aim
Can incorporating interactive elements and personalized features enhance the language learning experience?
Cons
Free Easily accessible
Pros
Prioritizes vocabulary over practical conversational skillsStandardized approach

Competitor analysis
Users are having trouble staying motivated through existing apps to continue learning if they feel like there's no progress made. This means that if they are learning unuseful things, it makes studying unconsisted.
Lack of motivation
Problems
One of the struggles of learning is that users can't practice as much or they do not have enough courage. Furthermore, the explanations of the lessons aren't as clear.
Difficulty absorbing new languages
Problems
Many apps offer automated assessments and feedback, which are not as effective. Most famous apps do not provide sufficient feedback on pronunciation and are monotonous.
Lack of personalized feedback
Problems
In order to improve better learning, the app is perosnalized towards user's goals and needs. The app will keep track of user's progress in order to keep them motivated. Also, an instant feedback will be added to improve the experience.
Personalized lessons
Solutions
The game is focused to engage users with daily practicing and real life conversations. . The app will include a lot of imagery in order to improve long term retention.
Make it interesting
Solution
The goal is to make the app practical, mostly illustrative, game either in 2D or 3D which will engage users more. My initial idea is to turn the game into a city where users can explore and practice not only vocabulary, but also actual conversations.
