Konrad Zuse
Short biography
Konrad Zuse, married with Gisella Brandes, was born in Berlin (22-06-1910). He was a great german engineer who became famous because of the invention of the machine that we considerate the first computer, the Z3, which was controlled by programs. In 1912, his family moved to East Prussia but in 1923, they moved to Hoyerswerda, where he could go to university. His first machine, the Z1, (a kind of calculator)and the Z3 were destroyed during the Second World War. In 1946, Konrad founded the first computers company, the Zusa-ingenieurbüro Hopferau. After lots of years working and creating computers, he finally decided to invesat his time in his hobbie, painting.
Second generation
1952-1964
- Vacuum tubes are changed by transistors (smaller, less hot and more reliable).
- N.S Kapany invents optic fiber.
- They create the first commercial communication satellites (Syncom).
Fifth generation
1981-Now
- They principally work on artificial intelligence, microelectronics, nanotyechnology...
- The CD and DVD appear, the use of personal computers and internet is much more massive
- Satellites communications and broadcasts are generalized
- Thins that we all use now like mobile phones as we known them, laptops, tablets, social media... were created in this generation for example the creator of facebook, Mark Zuckerberg.
Fourt generation
1971-1981
- Intel developes a microprocessor.
- This device will allow the invention of the PC (personal computers)
- In this generation, computers became more affordable, easier to transport and reliable
Third generation
1964-1971
- Texas Instruments company createsd tha first integrated circuits.
- This allows them to introduce little chips with lots of transistors.
- Consequently, the computers will be smaller.
- Charles K.Kao used optic fiber for phone conversations in 1966.
- In 1969 they create the first computers net, ARPANET, with the transmission protocol TCP/IP, which are the basesof internet.
First generation
1940-1952
In this generation, Konrad Zuse developed the first computer (Z1, in 1941) which was controled by programs. It was a kind of calculator. During the Second World War, John Presper Eckert y John William Mauchly created the ENIAC, the first huge computer, it was designed to calculate war techniques.
- Vacuum tubes as the principal component of CPU.
- Punch cards, paper tape and magnetic tape.
