Eld's Deer

  • Habitat : South-east India, forests and valleys
  • Threats : Hunt, habitat destruction for agriculture

So far the human population explosion has been a direct threat to the forests eld's deer lives in. Less than 1% of the South East asian forests are suitable for it to live normally. The program has been helping by breeding this species in another continent, less populated.

A program has begun in 1976 : Some individuals are preserved in zoos in North America. This species has trouble living near to humans and reproducing: there are less than 1500 individuals left.
