Forma de uso

Usos y entonación

OrdersAdults do not usually give each other orders, unless they are in a position of authority. However, adults can give orders to children and to animals. The intonation of an order is important: each word is stressed, and the tone falls at the end of the sentence For example Sit down now! * "Sit", "down" and "now" are all stressed, and the tone falls on "now".

COMMON MISTAKES

  • One of the common mistakes is to forget the "don't" by forming negative imperative sentences, which can change the meaning of the sentence.
  • Remember that in affirmative imperative sentences, the subject "you" is often removed, but in formal contexts, it is possible to include it for clarity.

  • Mastering imperatives and understanding their proper tone and intonation improves the effectiveness of communication in everyday and work situations.
