MARIE CURIE

By: Arianne 6C

She was born in Warsaw, Poland, November 7, 1867.

Her mother was an intelligent woman and

her father was a professor of physics and mathematics.

She was motivated by curiosity that science could change the life of humanity.

In 1878 she graduated with honors. However, the Russians didnt allowed higher education for women, so she fought against gender discrimination

In the autumn of 1891, she was finally able to travel to Paris to begin her courses . In 1893 she graduated in physics

Marie was the first woman to receive two Nobel Prizes, in physics and chemistry and she was the first woman teaching at the University of Paris and to direct a laboratory.

She discovered two elements of the periodic chart, radium and polinium, radium is used in medicine to kill cancer cells in bones. Polinium is used, for removing static charges, it is used in brushes, in photographic films and on space satellites

In 1893 Marie met Pierre, a physicist, and they began a friendship that ended in marriage . With the support of her husband, Marie set out to stay in France. Her research topic was the rays emitted by uranium

The Curies had two daughters. In 1906, when Pierre died in an accident, Marie continued her research work alone. The numerous awards she received gave her popularity and opened doors for her.

Marie Curie was subjected to radiation and soon she began to feel symptoms of weakness and anemia. In 1934, she was diagnosed with aplastic anemia that caused her death on July 4 of that year.
