The Steam Engine

It is a heat engine that performs mechanical work using steam. It uses the force produced by steam pressure to push a piston back and forth inside a cylinder Some of the inventions using the steam engine were:

  • Trains and railways.
  • Boats and shipping.
  • Tractors and farming equipment.

The Pressing Press

The printing press is a mechanical device for applying pressure to an inked surface resting upon a print medium. It was a very important invention because of the following main points:

  • It allowed for mass production of books and newsletters.
  • It allowed more reach for knowledge.
  • It allowed to share the scientific discoveries easily.

The Abacus

The Abacus was one of the first instruments used for calculation. It consists of a two-dimensional array of slidable beads. Each represented units, tens, hundreds, thousends and more multiples of ten.

Refrigeration

In 1842, John Gorrie created a system capable of refrigerating water to produce ice. Although it was a commercial failure, it inspired scientists and inventors around the world. Refrigeration then became more popular as it became smaller and more accessible, making it very important as it allows for the better conservation of organic food and other items.

The Telephone

Alexander Graham Bell was the first to patent the telephone, as an "apparatus for transmitting vocal or other sounds telegraphically". Bell has most often been credited as the inventor of the first practical telephone.
