Такі динамічні дієслова, як do, work і play, описують дії та можуть використовуватися в обох типах часів – простому (наприклад, Present Simple) і тривалому (наприклад, Present Continuous):

• I often listen to classical music.
• I'm listening to Mozart now.

Дієслова стану

Дієслова стану використовуються в Simple, навіть якщо вони стосуються чогось, що відбувається в момент мовлення

• розумові/мислячі дієслова, напр. believe, know, need, remember, think, understand, want

• дієслова ставлення (що описують почуття, емоції, уподобання тощо), напр. hate, like, love, prefer

• дієслова відчуття/сприйняття, напр. feel, hear, see.

• Do you understand me?
• Does she want to go to a music festival?

Виключення:

Деякі дієслова стану можуть використовуватися в Continuous, але зі зміною значення (наприклад, think, have, look):

• Do I look good in this dress? (state > стан > Simple)
• What are you looking at? (action > дія > Continuous)
