What happened here?

We can create WH questions to have more information about the topic we want to know.

  • What movie did ya'll watch?
  • When did you buy the tickets?

Or we can ask simple questions. (yes or no)

  • Did you like the film?
  • Was she a good actress?

Examples

As such DID has no meaning, only one purpose: to be used as an auxiliary because verbs are not as independet as the "verb to be"

  • He didn't bake her a cake.
  • They didn't have dinner.

The verb to be is independent and you can use it to deny itself.

  • Emily wasn't angry.
  • They weren't hungry.

Examples:

Refer to an action or event that happened in the past:We swam yesterday. Speak about something that was true for some time in the past: She danced ballet at school. Explain something that happened more than once in the past: We enjoyed watching movies everytime we met.

Spelling variations

For the verbs of one syllable, ending in “consonant + vowel + consonant”, the Verb doubles the consonant + ed.

  • The car stopped at the traffic lights.
  • Carla dropped her phone in the water.

For the verbs ending in “e”, we add a “d” at the end of it.

  • He closed the window two minutes ago.
  • She danced in a show last week

For the verbs ending in consonant + y, we transform “y“ into ied.STUDY

  • He studied English yesterday afternoon.
TRY
  • I tried Japanese food last month.

*Remind: travelled, preferred, permitted Consonants we cannot double: w, y, x

  • It snowed yesterday.
  • We played tennis last week
  • She mixed the flour before.

Base questions.

When did you find it?Where did it happen? How did she/he look like that day? Was the killer a man or a woman? Did you suspect on anyone? What kind of relationship did you have with him/her?
