IRLA Materials
You will need the IRLA Manual if you are giving the assessment in person. The manual has the materials for each level in order. You will find the phonics infrastructure, vocabulary infrastructure, cold reads and word lists in the IRLA manual.
Phonics Infrastructure
Play
Start with the Phonics Infrastructure. This will give initial data to gague a student's phonics skills. Have student read a few rows until you get an idea of which list of words feel best for them. Then go to the highest column of words students have read successfully. Have them read down that column. If they are able to read 70-80% of the words, go to the cold read of that level. If student is able to read the 2R column successfully, go to the Vocabulary Infrastructure.
Play
Vocabulary Infrastructure
Continue to the vocabulary infrastructure with students who are able to read the 2R words in the Phonic Infrastructure. Work your way up and down the columns having students give a definition or synonym for 5-6 words in each column. Go to the cold read of the highest level student can give you correct responses to 5-6 words. * The Phonics & Vocabulary Infrastruture should only take a few minutes. This is just to get initial data to see what level cold read to start with student.

Check in with the student to see if they understand what they are reading. This requirement has been skipped in initial assessment to save time.
